When it comes to understanding the forces that drive a local economy many economic development teams are seriously uninformed on the science and methodologies around a concept called Creative Placemaking. The fact that this unfortunately set of circumstances is consistently repeated throughout the @I85Cyber, the State of Alabama and the entire Southeastern US has not deterred Kevin King and the team at the Kings Canvas from showing the rest of our community how to execute on core “Creative Placemaking Principles”. Mr King in collaboration with the Louisiana Cultural Districts recently held a webinar where they walked attendees through the parts, pieces and particulars of the Creative Placemaking “secret sauce” that team members at the Kings Canvas have applied/are applying In Montgomery, Alabama along the Historic Civil Rights Trail. The streaming content from the webinar can be found below.
The Montgomery/Central Alabama region is known as a “GLOBAL TOURISM DESTINATION” but if one were to take a few moments to inquire, “Exactly what is tourism?” the answer(s) can be quite fascinating. A ponderer may concluded that TOURISM is simply THE APPLICATION OF THE ARTS AROUND A PARTICULAR SUBJECT MATTER/SET OF DATA and that this concept includes the ARTS in all of its various forms.
- Culinary Arts
- Performing Arts
- Visual/Graphical Arts
- Literary Arts
- And the list goes on and on and on….
Actually from both workforce development and economic development perspectives,
With a small amount of steAm(science, technology, engineering, ART and mathematics) one can “COOK” and “TENDERIZE” an entire “POT” of STEMs(science, technology, engineering and mathematics).
Please allow Kevin King and the team from the Kings Canvas to share more details around these concepts through the content of the webinar found here:
